Public Meeting

Public meeting at Comilla held on 17-5-57 at 3 P.M. Major Ghani, M P A Presided:

Sub: Food and Economic crisis, non-payment of land and crop compensation for the lands acquired during and after the war, difficulties in getting passport and Visas, difficulties of Border people and present political confusion. 

Resolutions passed:-

The following resolutions were passed in the meeting:

(1)     Pakistan is passing through a critical phase in her history, political instability due to “patch up” parliamentary system of administration based on different parties and groups with divergent and contradictory views and ideologies which has given rise to naked power politics. Further appeals to Mr. H S Suhrawardy, the Prime Minister of Pakistan to purge the communist and other subversive elements from his party-failing which our foreign and national policies bound to suffer. Clean policies is bound to give clean administration for the people of our country

(2)     This meeting urge upon the Govt of East Pakistan to take immediate steps for Payment of land and crop compensation for the lands they have acquired so far and further urge upon the Provincial Govt. to take up with the Central Govt. to expedite payment of compensation as regards the lands acquired during the war. 

(3)     That food should be given top most priority and be kept above politics. Entire food administration should be dealt on emergency basis and all out efforts must be made to rush food   throughout the province. 

(4)     That immediate steps must be taken to establish a agricultural  credit bank in each district and Sub-Divisional HQ of this province to help the agriculturists to grow more food and become self sufficient.  

(5)     That provincial Govt. should take up with the Central Govt. to transform landless agriculturist from East Pakistan to remove the pressure from land in East Pakistan and bring millions to waste land in West Pakistan under caltivation. 

(6)     That Govt should setup a high powered emergency Commission to check up soaring prices of food grains and other commodities 

(7)     That immediate steps should be taken to return the A Category visas to the ziratia tenants and landless workers of border people. 

(8)     That Govt should taka immediate drastic steps to stop smuggling of food grains and currency to India by various means and methods.
