Proposal for Public
Health Improvement and Establishment of Children's Parks
(Provincial Assembly Proceedings, 25/03/1957, 11:05 PM)
Today, the spread of drug
addiction among the youth is bringing about a societal catastrophe. Major
Ghani, MPA, was always vocal on this critical issue. Explaining the grave
consequences of this menace, he drew the attention of the authorities,
emphasizing the urgent need for control. He clearly understood that if the
youth are not guided on the right path, the future generations will inevitably
face calamity.
In addition, he
elaborated on the necessity of establishing children's parks to protect public
health and ensure a pollution-free environment. While addressing the Provincial
Assembly, he stated:
*"Honourable
Speaker, there is another issue I would like to raise. For the past few days, I
have been hearing reports about a medicine manufactured by Sadhana Aushadhalay
called 'Mrityu Sanjibani Sudha.' It has been found to contain 60-70%
intoxicating substances. This medicine is now available in every shop, tea
stall, and hidden corners behind curtains. Gradually, the entire nation will
fall prey to addiction. My humble request to the Health Minister is to kindly
investigate the actual intoxicant content in this medicine and whether any
regulatory measures have been imposed on it.
I particularly want to
highlight the region from where this medicine is coming. There are currently
two ministers from that area, and the condition of my district, which is
already a critical area in East Pakistan for youth addiction, has worsened.
Unfortunately, our ministers have failed to bring about any improvement or even
establish a hospital in Brahmanbaria, despite two ministers being from the
area.
Additionally, I wish to
address the issue of public sanitation. People are defecating on the roads,
creating an unbearable stench, and no measures are being taken to address this.
For public sanitation, the establishment of sanitary toilets is essential. In
areas like Swamibagh in Dhaka and Nabi Ganj in Narayanganj, there were plans
for such sanitary toilets, and I urge the authorities to pay attention to
implementing these measures without delay."*
Major Ghani’s appeal
underscored the dire need for immediate action on public health, environmental
sanitation, and the welfare of the younger generation, reflecting his
unwavering commitment to societal progress.
