Felicitation to the newly elected Speaker of Provincial
Assembly
5th August, 1955
Major Abdul Ghani:
Mr. Speaker Sir, as an independent member, I take this opportunity of congratulating you on your being elected to the esteemed position of speaker of this august House, which is the biggest Legislature in the whole of Pakistan, and which will play the most important part in molding our National life.
Sir, as a distinguished lawyer and for upholding
the right cause of justice, you excelled in the legal profession. But while so engaged, you also served the people by your active
participation in multi-dimensional activities aimed at the
upliftment of the silent masses of our poor country.
As a member of the now-defunct Bengal Legislative
Assembly, you raised the level of debates to a high degree. Here in this exalted position, we expect
you to rise equally to the occasion and make decisions on controversial
points impartially and conduct the deliberations of the House with positive co-operation of
every honorable member of the house
in
discharging your duties.
In your hand lies, the balance of power and you should use it to the benefit
of the House as a whole. From today, Sir, you cease to be a party
man.
We meet today under a new atmosphere, and
we hope, will get inspiration from you for establishing unity of the different groups
of people for devotion
to the cause of the overall programs
of
the country.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Felicitation, 5th August, 1955
